S1E7 - Eustace's truck

Eustace's truck is the vehicle used by the Bagge family for transport, and is owned by Eustace Bagge.

The truck has no official name or direct correspondence to any real-life vehicle, and little is known about it other than that it belongs to Eustace and has been repaired many times by him. The truck is very old, appearing to date from the 1920s or 30s and is also very worn out, with many mismatched panels and various other imperfections. Eustace spends a lot of his free time working on and tinkering with the truck, whether it's the horn, engine components or other parts. Despite this, the truck seems to be in a poor mechanical state and frequently sputters and backfires when driven. Eustace is also seen buying a new hubcap for the truck in one episode.

Eustace has a strong emotional connection to the vehicle and is very fond and protective of it. It seems to be his most prized possession and it may be one of the only things that he truly loves and cares about. In the episode "The Gods Must be Goosey", he is seen to be completely heartbroken over his loss of the truck to The Goose God, kneeling in front of the tire tracks where it used to be parked and sobbing heavily, even going so far as to state that he is nothing without the truck.

The truck can be seen parked outside of the Bagge Farm homestead in almost every episode. Usually Eustace is the one who drives the truck during family outings or journeys, but there are a few occasions where Courage takes the truck and drives it. Muriel is also seen driving it on one occasion, at the end of the episode "A Night at the Katz Motel".

Trivia[]

  • Although the truck does not seem to be a direct copy of any particular model, it does bare a slight resemblance to a 1928 Ford Model AA, a truck commonly used on farms in the Midwest. There are also similarities with the ZIS-5 and Autocar Dispatch SA.
  • The truck is powered by a V8 engine paired to a manual transmission, it appears to have leather or more than likely vinyl seats, a glove box, and a radio.
  • It's possible that Eustace may have built the truck himself at some point using parts scavenged from various vehicles, as the truck does not closely resemble any real world truck, and some farmers actually used to do this in the early days of automobiles.
  • Just like Eustace, who often dies in comical ways on a regular basis, the truck has been badly damaged or destroyed on numerous occasions, but always returns fully repaired and unharmed in later episodes.
